Graham’s Tile Flooring & Design

Tile is one of the most versatile materials to help you show off your unique style and taste and it is definitely the most durable of all flooring. These days, it’s used for much more than flooring. It’s not uncommon to see it installed on back splashes, fireplaces, shower walls, and even outdoor areas!

Tile comes in a variety of styles, sizes, and colors to meet your design language, as well as almost any budget, too.

Types of tile flooring:

Ceramic
clay-based tile that is typically lightweight, glazed, and fired at a lower temperature than porcelain tiles. Ceramic tiles are often less expensive than porcelain, provide good water resistance, and lots of colorful options.
Porcelain
clay-based specialty ceramic that is fired at very high temperatures and provides excellent water resistance. Porcelain tiles are typically presented in through-body or color-body options. This means that the internal color of the tile matches more closely with the exterior pattern, which can reduce the appearance of wear and chipping. These tiles are better options for outdoor and high-traffic areas.
Natural Stone
Natural stone is, as it sounds, a result of geological pressure forming minerals into different layers or pockets of materials which are then quarried directly from the Earth’s surface. Natural stone is porous and requires a sealant or glaze to fill the micro-pores and improve the material’s resistance to water and staining. Typical types of Natural Stone used in building materials are: granite, marble, limestone, quartzite, soapstone, and travertine.
Glass Tile
Glass tiles are made from thin pieces of glass with translucent glaze or image fired onto the back of each tile. They’re sold individually or pre-set on mesh. They are highly reflective, easy to clean, and have 0% water absorption rate. Professional installation is encouraged though, because the translucent nature of the glass means the adhesive is visible. Glass tiles tend to be more expensive than ceramic because of a higher production cost and the highly artistic and specialized visuals they produce.

To maintain your tile flooring:

Glazed Tile
  • Clean regularly with all-purpose, non-oil-based household cleaners that’s compatible with cleaning grout joints.
  • Use every day multi-purpose spray cleaners to remove soap scum, hard water deposits and mildew.
Unglazed Tile
  • Use concentrated tile cleaners with a neutral pH to clean regularly. Just make sure the cleaner is intended for the application, use, and traffic level.
  • Clean glass tile with a non-abrasive cleaner that is recommended for glass or tile.
