Most of us spend a lot of time in the kitchen, especially during this past year, and it gets unorganized quickly. If your kitchen is on your organization to-do list, we’ve got you covered! We’ve compiled our best tips to get you started.

1. Hang Your Stuff

Hooks allow you to make the most of your cabinet space. Add hooks to the inside of your cabinet doors to hang pot lids. You also can add hooks inside of cabinets, underneath shelves or anywhere else to easily make more space. If you have exposed cabinet sides, add a hook or rail to hang utensils that take up too much space in a drawer. Pots and pans take up plenty of cabinet space as well. Look into a hanging pot rack if it works well for your space.

2. Use an Egg Carton

Well-known chef and Food Network star Alton Brown came up with this organization tip! Remove the top of an unused egg carton, and place the carton in one of your fridge’s shelves. Store condiments mouth-end down to save space and catch any mess.

3. Store Items Above Cabinets

Do your cabinets have extra space above them? If so, use that space to store bulky items (such as big pots or steaming baskets) or items that you don’t use very often. You can also use that space to display decorative plates, dishes or other items that take up space elsewhere.

4. Transfer Pantry Items to Clear Containers

If you’re a Home Edit fan, then you’ve seen the difference made in a pantry when you put food in clear plastic containers. It allows you to see everything and gets rid of cluttered packaging that takes up space. Put cereal, pasta, flour, sugar, rice, crackers, etc. into clear containers or jars and label the contents. It saves space, looks nice and allows you to see much more in your fridge and pantry.

5. Use Your Mixer Bowl

If you have a standing mixer, you know it’s hard to keep all the added attachments organized. Place a towel in the mixing bowl and store the attachments inside.

6. Add Risers

Add space to counters and cabinets by using risers. For example, you can put one on your counter to hold frequently used items, such as salt, pepper, honey, olive oil and sugar. You can add risers underneath your sink to make the most of space.

7. Tension Rod Storage Hacks

Adding a tension rod can add some extra storage space. For example, adding one underneath the sink allows you to hang cleaning bottles. If you have a small cabinet above the microwave for spices, you can add a tension rod to expand your storage space.

8. Utilize Lazy Susans

If you have corner cabinets, you have firsthand experience with the dark, hard-to-reach part of that cabinet. Sticking a Lazy Susan in your cabinet makes the awkward corner space more usable. You can also add a small Lazy Susan to the table or your counter to organize regularly-used items.

9. Repurpose Metal File Organizers

Baking sheets slide all over in your cabinets. Adding a metal file organizer can easily organize cutting boards, baking sheets, muffin tins and charcuterie boards.

10. Transform your Fridge Using Clear Bins

Like using clear containers for your pantry, using clear containers in your fridge allows you to see more of what’s in your fridge and keeps it looking organized. Purchase clear, stackable bins to use for your fridge. You can use these containers to store drinks, eggs, produce, yogurts, condiments, etc. Adding labels to your bins takes your organization up a notch!

11. Limit Yourself to One Junk Drawer

Everyone has junk, and a kitchen is a great place to have one junk drawer. Use small containers or small gift boxes to better organize your junk drawer. Go through this drawer regularly so that extra clutter doesn’t accumulate.

12. Add a Drying Rack

If you have young kids, you can use a drying rack inside a cabinet to organize all the kids plates, cups, bottles and utensils. These items don’t usually stack easily.

13. Use the Space You Have

If your kitchen or pantry are small, you can always store bulky items or items you rarely use in another part of your home. Add shelves to an empty closet or a laundry room to expand your storage options. A quick online search can help you track down shelving options for your space. Similarly, if your pantry’s current shelving doesn’t fit your needs, look at upgrading your shelving system.

14. Create a Spice Drawer

Purchase clear spice containers and switch out all of your spices. Label each container, place them in a drawer and you now have easily-accessible spices!

15. Adjust your Shelf Height

Remember that you can adjust the height of your shelves in your cabinets to make the space work best for your needs. This strategy also works in your fridge!
